Introduction

BUA is a premium Irish golf apparel concept built around the idea that Irish golf heritage could be represented through modern performance clothing.

The project explores how a brand can feel connected to Ireland without relying on familiar symbols or surface level references.

Instead, BUA draws from landscape, history and the traditions of links golf to create a more considered expression of Irish identity.

The Challenge

Create a premium golf apparel brand that felt distinctly Irish while competing within a wider global golf lifestyle market.

Ireland has a deep connection with golf, from historic links courses to generations of golfers, but many expressions of Irish identity rely on predictable visual cues.

The challenge was to create something more understated.

A brand that could sit comfortably alongside premium golf and lifestyle brands while still feeling like it could only come from Ireland.

The Idea

The idea behind BUA was to create Ireland distilled into premium golf fashion.

The focus was not on representing Ireland through obvious symbols, but through a deeper connection with the landscape and culture that shapes Irish golf.

BUA was designed for the golfer who values simplicity, quality and authenticity.

Someone who chooses a product because it feels considered, not because it demands attention.

The Name

BUA was chosen for its simplicity, meaning and design potential.

The name connects naturally with golf through the idea of achievement and success, while remaining short, memorable and internationally accessible.

Rather than using an Irish word that relied on accents, pronunciation explanations or traditional spelling conventions, BUA was created as a name that could travel.

A name that feels rooted in Ireland while belonging in a global premium market.

The Identity

The BUA identity was developed through research into ancient Irish language and history.

The glyph was created from Ogham, an early Irish writing system, using a literal translation before being stylised into a modern brand symbol.

The glyph itself reads BUA and was designed to stand independently as a recognisable mark.

The wordmark was built from the same visual language, using similar curves and weight while introducing a slightly more fluid character.

Together, the glyph and wordmark create a balance between heritage and contemporary performance.

The Visual System

The colour palette was developed from the Irish landscape rather than traditional golf colours.

Verdantra represents the deeper greens found across Ireland, avoiding bright and artificial tones in favour of something more natural and historic.

Driftstone, Seabhac and Ogham Black complete the system, drawing from sand, dunes, links courses, stone and the natural environment surrounding Irish golf.

The result is a palette that feels premium, understated and connected to place.

The Product Direction

The initial product direction focused on premium on course golf apparel.

The first pieces explored a performance led collection including quarter zips, polos and caps.

The approach was to create clothing that could exist on a championship links course while naturally moving into a wider lifestyle space.

The long term ambition was to build a brand that sits between performance golf and everyday premium clothing.

Final Statement

BUA is a modern expression of Irish golf.

A brand built from landscape, history and performance.

Understated by design, connected by origin.
